Sam Anderson

Sam Anderson, Program Coordinator and Communications Specialist, directs New Entry's livestock and poultry programs, including the Livestock Field Schools, the Eastern Massachusetts Mobile Poultry Processing Unit (EMass MPPU), and individual technical assistance for Farm Business Planning Course participants launching new livestock enterprises. Sam also oversees New Entry's training and technical assistance for on-farm poultry processing and several additional livestock projects, including the New England Small Ruminant IPM Working Group, and provides programmatic support for New Entry's other farmer training programs, the National Incubator Farm Training Initiative (NIFTI), and the Community Food Projects program. As Communications Specialist, he writes New Entry's monthly e-newsletter, conducts outreach for potential new farmers, teaches Explore Farming, and guides core program participants through the application process. Sam grew up on a farm in Ohio, where he learned firsthand about sheep, poultry, forage and field crop management. Sam graduated from Kenyon College with an English major and received his M.A. in Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning from Tufts University. He has previously worked at an agricultural research branch of The Ohio State University and as an agricultural journalist for Farm Progress Companies. He is also currently Editor of GeneWatch, a non-profit magazine focusing on the implications of genetic technologies.
