USDA Risk Management Agency

RMA LogoUnited States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Risk Management Agency funds the New Entry core training and education programs, including outreach, marketing, technical assistance, and resource library.

SARE

SARE LogoSustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) is a program of USDA's Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service. SARE funds New Entry's transitioning farming program. SARE also funds activities of the Northeast Network of Immigrant Farming Projects, which is managed through New Entry.

Jesse Smith Noyes Foundation

The Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation promotes a sustainable and just social and natural system by supporting grassroots organizations. The Noyes foundation provides needed non-discretionary funding for New Entry program activities.

Theodore Edson Parker Foundation

The Parker Foundation seeks to enhance the city of Lowell and improve the quality of life for all of its residents.

Outreach and Assistance for Socially Disadvantaged Farmers Program (OASDFR)

OASDFR LogoOASDFR is a program of USDA's Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service. OASDFR delivers outreach and technical assistance to assure opportunities for socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers to successfully acquire, own, operate, and retain farms and ranches, and assure equitable participation in the full range of USDA programs. OASDFR funds help New Entry with all of its core programs, including education, outreach, and technical assistance.

Jessie B. Cox Charitable Trust

Located in Boston, Massachusetts, the trust is funding the New Entry land identification program.

Greater Lowell Community Foundation

The Greater Lowell Community Foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life in the Greater Lowell, Nashoba and western Merrimack Valley regions of Massachusetts through philanthropic leadership and service. The Greater Lowell Community Foundation administers the John A. Ogonowski New Farm Families Fund, a living memorial to Captain Ogonowski, the pilot who perished in the September 11 terror attacks. Proceeds from this fund support farmland acquisition, equipment operations, and build endowment capital.

Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR)

The Mass. Dept. of Agricultural Resources helps to keep Massachusett's food supply safe and secure, and works to keep Massachusetts agriculture economically and environmentally sound. Their funding allows for New Entry to partner with the New England Small Farm Institute to license and approve its Mobile Poultry Processing Unit Regulatory Approval Project. In addition, MDAR assists with identification of farmland, links to state Farmers' Markets, training on regulatory topics, and issues and tracks Farmers' Market Nutrition Program coupons.

The Clowes Fund, Inc.

The Clowes Fund seeks to enhance the common good by encouraging organizations that help to build a just and equitable society, create opportunities for initiative, foster creativity and the growth of knowledge, and promote appreciate for the natural environment. Clowes funds are used to carry out an assessment of needs and opportunities among immigrants and refugees of greater Boston-area and to help them plan food and farming related activities.

Northeast Center for Risk Management Education

NCRME was established in 2001 with funding from the USDA Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service (CSREES). Their mission is to improve the risk management decision-making processes of agricultural producers in the Northeast Region through a comprehensive educational program. NECRME funding will help New Entry to address the production, financial and marketing risks that small diversified farmers face as they expand into new marketing opportunities.

Massachusetts Society for Promoting Agriculture

MSPA funding will help New Entry complete an overall assessment and carry out the rigorous planning work to form a statewide beginning farmer initiative to bring stakeholders together and to develop a common agenda for how to best meet beginning farmer needs.

Claneil Foundation, Inc.

The Claneil Foundation works to create healthy communities by supporting organizations that: make a difference in the lives of individuals, families, and the institutions that support them; develop an informed, educated, and engaged citizenry; and increase the understanding and appreciation of natural, built, and cultural assets. Claniel funding will help New Entry complete an overall assessment and carry out the rigorous planning work to form a statewide beginning farmer initiative which will require a dedicated effort to bring stakeholders together and to develop a common agenda for how to best meet beginning farmer needs.

Federal State Marketing Improvement Program (FSMIP)

FSMIP funds a wide range of applied research projects that address barriers, challenges, and opportunities in marketing, transportation, and distribution of U.S. food and agricultural products domestically and internationally.

FSMIP funding will help New Entry to build long-term viability of the World PEAS Marketing Cooperative through strengthened performance by farmers, emphasizing improved producer training and technical assistance, and inclusion of value added. New Entry will also design a practical marketing-oriented report and guide for use by other small-scale multi-farmer marketing.

Harry Chapin Foundation

The Harry Chapin Foundation supports organizations that have demonstrated their ability to dramatically improve the lives and livelihood of people by helping them to become self-sufficient.

The Harry Chapin award funding will help New Entry to provide matching funds for beginning farmer businesses.

Farm Aid

Farm Aid's mission is to build a vibrant family-farm centered system of agriculture in America.

The Farm Aid grant will allow New Entry to research and evaluate creative alternative approaches to agricultural education and training to reach greater numbers of users state wide. Online options include web-based courses/workshops, streaming videos, webcasts, and other tools. New Entry’s field-tested agricultural training curriculum will be made more accessible by adapting new technology approaches to the capacities of specific audiences.

Job Access and Reverse Commute (JARC)

The Massachusetts Office for Refugees and Immigrants (MORI) and the New Entry Sustainable Farming Project (New Entry)will share a planning grant to identify a transportation solution for an agricultural employment program for low-income refugees and immigrants living in Boston to work at farms in the greater Boston area.
