Raising Pastured Poultry: Chickens, Turkeys and Egg Layers
Join the NOFA-Mass workshop at Pete and Jen’s Backyard Birds and Farmyard for an in-depth workshop and farm tour focused on successfully raising pastured poultry. Pete and Jen will go into detail on breed selection, brooding practices, pasture management, rotations, quality assurance, health concerns, crating, preparing for slaughter and slaughter details. At workshop time Pete and Jen will have meat chickens, egg layers and turkeys on the farm, and will cover the nuances of the different types of poultry.
Many farms “say” they have free-range pasture-raised birds and their birds are often on dirt lots and they don’t move them frequently if at all. Pete and Jen’s poultry are actually out on pasture and they are excited to share their pasture management and active rotational grazing/active forage strategies with participants.
If you are currently raising birds and would like to increase your flock or figure out the pasture management puzzle, this is the workshop for you. Or if you are hoping to raise chickens one day, this workshop would be a great start. Why go through years of trial and error when you could learn much of what you need to know in an afternoon
