Conservation easements:

Situated in a high secluded valley on a quiet dead-end road, surrounded by over 1000 acres of protected land, Hamlet Hill Farm has been farmed since 1750. The farm has 400 acres of which approximately 130 are tillable. Our high field, called Rand’s View, is a favorite stopping place on the Appalachian Trail and is considered one of the best views in the State of Connecticut. This 80 acre piece was protected under an easement with the Park Service 20 years ago.

Additional details:

We raise meat sheep, about 100 ewes with a goal for now of 150. The upper part of the farm is used for pasture and hay to support the sheep operation. Have newly tilled 4 acres for veg production and we also raise meat birds.

The lower section of the farm could easily be separated from the sheep part and evolve into vegetable production with a focus on certain high value crops. There are two very good areas for pastured pigs. 130 acres total of arable land, which we are continuing to clear. There is a spring (40 lbs of pressure) which feeds lower part of farm. The geology of the area is a glacial outflow so have ledge in some places (only few feet of soil). Soils have been tested and are good (average pH is just under 7) because of a natural lime base.

Our goal is to keep Hamlet Hill Farm a vibrant and ongoing farming asset to our community long into the future and to  make this happen we are looking for an exceptional, motivated and experienced couple, looking for an opportunity to build a career. We will offer a partnership arrangement above a basic draw salary and housing. They would get base salary and housing and profit sharing %. We are looking to talk with people who are happy to have a discussion. Want to make this farm a vibrant living organism. We've been here 35 years.
