SNAP CSA Shares

In the 2016 season, World PEAS CSA was thrilled to partner with the Massachusetts DTA to offer a brand new share option, making fresh, local produce more affordable and accessible to our community members.

The SNAP CSA share offers the opportunity for SNAP recipients to pay for their World PEAS CSA share with their SNAP benefits. SNAP CSA customers receive a weekly farm share filled with $25 worth of fresh, local fruits and vegetables for just $10 per week!  Payments are debited directly from each customer’s SNAP/EBT card, offering a convenient payment solution to eating fresh food this season. Payments are debited in the full monthly amount of $40 ($10 per week for 4 weeks) on the day benefits are issued (before the 15th of the month.)

CSA shares include a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables each week.  The types of fruits and vegetables in the share change depending on what is in season.  World PEAS CSA staff work with farmers to design the share, ensuring the contents of the box reflects a week’s worth of produce for cooking and snacking. Generally, each share contains enough produce to feed 2 to 3 people, but is also a great way for larger families to add more fruits and vegetables into their diets.  Customers determine their pick-up site prior to the season from any one of our 12 community delivery locations in Lowell and Greater Boston.  On delivery day, customers receive an e-newsletter containing recipes, storage information, and updates for our farmers.

This season the World PEAS CSA is excited to announce another exciting initiative in partnership with the Masschusetts DTA: the Healthy Incentives Program!  HIP encourages SNAP clients to consume fresh, local produce by reimbursing them for purchasing it!

Here's how it works.  Depending on the SNAP benefit amount and family size, when SNAP participants spend their SNAP money on fresh, local produce, that money immediately gets put back onto their EBT card! For a household size of four, the monthly spending cap is $40; for a household of five, $60; for a household of six or more, $80.  That means that if you enroll in New Entry's $40/month SNAP CSA program, you will be reimbursed for the entire cost of the program!  In other words, the World PEAS SNAP CSA is free!

The SNAP reimbursement will happen immediately, and the funds may be spent on any SNAP eligible products.

In partnership with the Massachusetts DTA, New Entry is proud to support local farmers and local SNAP beneficiaries to ensure everyone will enjoy more delicious, fresh, local food this season!
