Marissa joined the New Entry team as the Community Engagement Coordinator in September 2018 as a TerraCorps/AmeriCorps member. In this role, she is excited to help New Entry with various outreach projects, volunteer engagement, and provide assistance with Food Hub operations. Marissa recently graduated from Mount Holyoke College with a degree in biology. While in college, she worked on a fossil fuel divestment campaign, which illuminated many of the climate and social justice issues the world faces for her, urged her to think deeply and critically about climate change, its mitigation, and her role in it, and surrounded her with wonderful, likeminded people. Marissa has also done urban forestry work in her hometown of Portland, Oregon to help people plant and care for trees in their neighborhoods. She loves thinking about equitable access to urban green space (and land in general) and getting involved with urban greening movements. In this work, Marissa found much overlap between planting trees and planting gardens and is excited to learn more about growing food during her 11-month service term with New Entry!
