Eduardo Tovar Lopez

Eduardo (Lalo) is the Associate Director for the New Entry Sustainable Farming Project (New Entry) since August 2024.

As an Associate Director, he helps to shape and carry out the strategic agenda of New Entry and works hand-in-hand with staff, consultants and partners to provide strategic leadership and management to the different New Entry’s programs.

Eduardo describes himself as an empathic leader and a catalyst, contributing to make things happen. Born and raised in a strongly rooted food culture place such as Mexico city, he was very curious about food systems at a young age, and soon realised that, to him, the world revolves around food. From that moment he knew he wanted to make food more sustainable, relevant and accessible for everyone.

Prior to working with New Entry, Eduardo was the Hub Manager for the Yucatan Peninsula region in the Southeast of Mexico, with the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), an agricultural research and development organization part of the CGIAR consortium. In addition, he has experience working at a consultancy firm specialized in land and water management in the Netherlands, as well as analysing and developing quality control methodologies for R&D new product development with Pepsico Foods Mexico. He has been fortunate to experience part of his professional development abroad, including the Netherlands, Nicaragua, Tanzania and the USA.

He holds a Bachelor degree in Food Chemistry from La Salle University in Mexico and a Master of Science degree in Organic Agriculture with specialization in Agroecology from Wageningen University and Research in the Netherlands (he was awarded a full scholarship from the CONAHCYT (National Council of Science and Technology in Mexico). In 2020 he obtained a certification in Managerial skills from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education.

Eduardo believes curiosity is a powerful driver for improvement. He enjoys cooking, eating and talking about food. He loves the outdoors, including walking, hiking and swimming. He also enjoys music, yoga, meditation, reading and is constantly trying out (sometimes successfully and sometimes unsuccessfully) new hobbies.
