Jasper Harnett

Jasper was recently hired as the Growing Under Cover course intern. He is helping to develop the outline of the course, including setting up the different modules, developing course resources, and creating relevant course social media posts.

Jasper is currently pursuing his MS at the Tufts Friedman School of Nutrition and Policy in the Agriculture, Food, and the Environment (AFE) program. Before coming to Tufts, Jasper worked at an environmental nonprofit based in NYC called GrowNYC. As the Garden Coordinator at GrowNYC, Jasper was responsible for building and maintaining community gardens around the city. He managed two rooftop gardens on residential buildings and did environmental education for students K-12 at GrowNYC’s Teaching Garden.

Jasper received his BA at Bard College where he studied environmental and urban studies, with a focus in food systems and soil health. After undergrad, Jasper moved to Argentina where he worked with agricultural scientists to research and develop a perennial sunflower variety called silphium. The work was connected to the Land Institute in Salina, Kansas, where Jasper interned between his junior and senior year of undergrad. Jasper also has multiple seasons of experience working on small-scale farms in both NY and NJ.

Jasper has a love for the outdoors, enjoys hiking and backpacking, and plays soccer and frisbee. He has two cats, which he loves very much.
