Data Analysis and Visualization
Duties and Responsibilities: New Entry is seeking for a Data Analysis Intern to assist in a variety of activities to survey, analyze, and disseminate data related to New Entry and the organization’s work. Primary responsibilities will support data collection, analysis, and outreach related to a several grant-funded projects on farm labor, mentorship, soil health, and other projects. Additionally, the position will support development and distribution of a national FIELD Network survey and creation of resulting infographics for publication on New Entry’s website. Other responsibilities include supporting production and distribution needs for the New Entry farm and Food Hub. The role will be mainly remote but some days you will be asked to come on farm for meetings and activities at New Entry’s Beverly location on Moraine Farm.
Intern Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
- Support research on farm labor models, analyze survey data, and combine/contribute findings to a final report to be distributed regionally and nationally
- Support meeting logistics for farmer focus groups related to soil health and various topics and code, analyze, and write up findings from focus group data into report and infographics
- Support focus group and survey development for a farm mentor training program and contribute to project reporting
- Support development of a national survey, facilitate outreach, data collection, analysis of results and development of infographics to share publicly
- Work with Farmer Training Team to develop pre- and post-evaluation metrics related to farmer outcomes, results, and behavior change
- Support outreach efforts to regional farmers and dissemination of project results through press releases, newsletters, social media
- Support Farmer Training and Food Hub teams with field work and produce distribution efforts.
Desired Qualifications:
• Strong research, data analysis, organizational skills, and acute attention to detail
• Experience designing surveys and analyzing results and translating findings into Plain Language for a variety of audiences (Qualtrics experience or a willingness to learn preferred)
• Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
• Comfortable working independently as well as with a team
• Experience creating infographics and other data visualization methods preferred
• Experience with outreach, social media, e-newsletters and marketing preferred
• Demonstrated interest in engaging in issues of equity, inclusion and dismantling racism, particularly in regards to food systems

Food Safety Outreach
Duties and Responsibilities: Assist with food safety outreach to New Entry farmers and creation and revision of existing Food Safety training documents. Help organize and develop materials for grower Produce Safety Alliance (PSA) and Commonwealth Quality Program (CQP) trainings. Support program staff to conduct site visits to farms to conduct mock food safety audits and assess readiness for food safety certification programs. Other responsibilities include supporting production and distribution needs for the New Entry farm and Food Hub. The role will be mainly remote but some days you will be asked to come on farm for meetings and activities at New Entry’s Beverly location on Moraine Farm.
Intern Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
- Educate partner (Food Hub) farms /vendors on becoming Commonwealth Quality Program certified. Involves learning about CQP with materials, MDAR requirements, and consulting staff members as needed to become familiar with requirements, audit processes, and expectations for documentation and food safety plans.
- Engage in farm visits with producers to assess their current produce safety and food handling and sanitation protocols and what improvements would need to be made to come into compliance with CQP program requirements
- Document current status and learning needs, technical assistance requirements, infrastructure needs, and producer readiness to meet food safety plan, audit and certification requirements.
- Support staff to determine next steps, additional educational programming, resource materials development, and develop next steps TA requirements for producers.

- Experience in marketing, produce buying, food safety, relationship-building, and customer service
- Community organizing and cross-cultural experience helpful; prepared and excited to build relationships with beginning, immigrant and refugee farmer participants.

Hydroponic Development
Duties and Responsibilities: New Entry is seeking for a Hydroponics Development Intern to assist the development of hydroponics at Tufts and beyond. Primary responsibilities will support data collection, analysis, create curriculum, and engage in outreach. Additionally, the position will support development and distribution of the curriculum on New Entry’s website. Commercial hydroponics operations are being deployed in urban environments and institutional settings to improve food security and accomplish a variety of learning objectives. New Entry Sustainable Farming Project was recently gifted commercial hydroponics equipment and this project is designed to fund the initial operation and implementation of this equipment in conjunction with new project partners (Essex Tech and Building Audacity). The collaboration will create research and experiential learning opportunities for Tufts students, as well as community engagement opportunities with an innovative agricultural technical school and grassroots non-profit organization. Other responsibilities include supporting production and distribution needs for the New Entry farm and Food Hub. The role will be mainly remote but some days you will be asked to come on farm for meetings and activities at New Entry’s Beverly location on Moraine Farm.

- Facilitate novel cross and inter campus and non-profit collaborations with students, faculty, staff, farmers, and other stakeholders
- Support meeting logistics for stakeholder meetings

Resource Development
Duties and Responsibilities: New Entry is looking for a Resource Development Intern to assist in a variety of activities to improve New Entry and the organization’s work to develop education and training materials for beginning farmers. Primary responsibilities will support updating and developing resource and training materials to support beginning and limited resource farmers to access USDA Programs and to improve soil heath, food safety, and other regenerative agriculture practices. Other responsibilities include supporting production and distribution needs for the New Entry farm and Food Hub. The role will be mainly remote but some days you will be asked to come on farm for meetings and activities at New Entry’s Beverly location on Moraine Farm.
Intern Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
- Support literature reviews to determine existing training resources and assess relevance, literacy levels, content, and potential for adaptation or inclusion in New Entry programming
- Support curriculum development on new resources to be developed for Farmer Training Team to meet related grant deliverables
- Support development of training guides, resource guides and fact sheets, decision tools, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) across various agricultural topics
- Lead development of the update to the Entrepreneur’s Guide to Farming in MA , including supporting producer interviews and case study development.
- Support outreach and communications for producer enrollment in courses and workshops
- Coordinate and post resources to the New Entry online resource library
- Outreach and share project resources through newsletter, listserv and website resource posting

Videography
Duties and Responsibilities: New Entry is looking for a Videography Intern to assist in developing a variety of educational videos and farmer case studies that showcase diverse producers’ access to USDA Programs and services. We will also seek to develop videos of farmers adopting and implementing soil health and regenerative agriculture practices. Primary responsibilities will be to outreach to targeted growers, conduct interviews to determine their successes and challenges accessing USDA programs and services, develop story boards and video outline/scripts, and capture field/farm footage of conservation practices and climate-smart measures to create a series of 10 educational videos for publication and outreach. Primary farmer participants will be small-scale and socially disadvantaged farmers who may not speak English as a first language; work with a translator may be necessary. Access to a professional video editing consultant will provide support and guidance throughout the project. Other responsibilities include supporting production and distribution needs for the New Entry farm and Food Hub.The role will be mainly remote but some days you will be asked to come on farm for meetings and activities at New Entry’s Beverly location on Moraine Farm.
Intern Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
- Support background research on existing video resources related to USDA Programs and soil health/regenerative agriculture practices
- Outreach and connect with up to 10-15 producers to work with to develop video projects
- Interview farmers to learn about their farms, soil health and regenerative practices, and experience with USDA Programs and Services.

- Travel to farmers’ fields to interview producers and capture footage of farmers to assemble video projects
- Interview service providers or other support staff related to the farmers’ story narrative
- Research and develop additional video materials (still images, graphics, illustrations, etc.) to complement the video projects
- Edit video footage and assemble content for review by partners and staff
- Edit final video cut based on feedback and input
- Publish 5 (3-5 minute) farmer videos on New Entry channels and promote via social media
- Coordinate and post resources to the New Entry online resource library
- Outreach and share project videos through newsletter, listserv and website resource posting

Farm Curriculum Development
Duties and Responsibilities: New Entry is looking for a Farm Curriculum Intern to assist in a variety of activities to improve New Entry and the organization’s work to develop new Practicum program for beginning farmers. The intern will attend planning sessions and support curriculum connections between existing New Entry stakeholder groups and create additional points of contact to support New Entry curriculum needs for our beginner farmers. They also will support follow-up action steps as a result of planning discussions, including collecting curriculum examples from other Incubator and apprenticeship programs, compiling resources, building learning materials, and supporting action planning for a new Practicum based program. Other responsibilities include supporting production and distribution needs for the New Entry farm and Food Hub. The role will be mainly remote but some days you will be asked to come on farm for meetings and activities at New Entry’s Beverly location on Moraine Farm.
