The University of Maryland Institute of Applied Agriculture (UM IAA) Internship Agreement is a contract between the student, the farm where they will be interning, and the internship coordinator. This template format includes contact information, job description, learning objectives, and evaluation plan, and can be applied generally for any combination of a mentor, mentee, and mentoring organization.

NOFA The On Farm Skills Development Guide

The Northeast Organic Farming Association - New York (NOFA-NY) skills guide is a template where mentors and mentees can track progress of various skills across farming, including specific knowledge related to livestock, business, fruit, dairy, produce, and repair. The guide also includes a template for periodic evaluations.

Internship Search Self-Assessment Form

The Internship Search Self-Assessment form was created by the University of Maryland Institute of Applied Agriculture in 2019.  The IAA Internship Search Self- Assessment is a form for exploring various aspects of what one is looking for in their farming internship. The form focuses on skills types, industry, location, and work style.

Smalley Personality Inventory (Animal Personalities)

The DISC Personality Assessment, created by Sage Strategies, tests provides a questionnaire to figure out which of four different types of behavior is most prominent within the test taker, and gives descriptions and insights into that personality.

They also host a free personality test on the Sage Strategies website.

This goal setting worksheet from the Adult Learner Handbook provides a template for determining how a goal can be carried through using the SMART goal method (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, timely).

Mentor Candidate Tipsheet

The Dairy Grazing Apprenticeship (DGA) Candidate Tipsheet provides mentor candidates with tips for what to include in their profile, and factors to consider when looking for apprentices. This includes what information should be shared and how to make an interesting profile for apprentice applications.

Apprentice Employment Agreement TEMPLATE

This template, authored by Quivira Coalition's New Agrarian Program, provides specific requirements and standards set for performance and expectations for mentors. It clearly states protocol for compensation, safety, communication, housing expectations and other important considerations for the workplace.

Balancing Work and Education - NAP Call Notes

This document, developed by Julie Sullivan, founding mentor of the Quivira Coalition's New Agrarian Program, provides examples and suggestions to help orient new apprentices to the farm and/or program. This outline helps to set expectations and understanding between mentor and apprentice while getting settled in.
