Discover the secrets to year-round production and innovative risk management at Farmer Dave’s farm tour, tailored for farmers. Since purchasing his farm in 2006, Dave has developed 2 acres of high tunnel space—1 acre heated, 1 acre unheated—with techniques that boost yields, reduce weather variability, and extend crop availability well into the winter.
With a focus on covered production, Dave will guide participants through his approach to risk management in both production and marketing, sharing the benefits of buried radiant heat for early spring crops and a high tunnel raspberry operation that yields June through November. His winter production features hardy crops like kale, spinach, and radishes, with plans to plant tomatoes and cucumbers as early as February.
This tour is an excellent opportunity for farmers to gain technical insights and actionable strategies for high tunnel production and diversified cropping systems. Don’t miss this chance to enhance your season extension techniques and risk management strategies!
