Every wonder what organic farming looks like? Or how farm-to-table actually works? Or who those people are who grow our food?

Answers to those questions and more will be here waiting for you at our Open Farm Day event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10. Along with activities for the kids, music, and edible samplings from our organic farming demonstration plot, it will also feature a unique incubator farmers market.

Housed in the historic 1882 barn designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the market will highlight our current crop of farmers who are launching their startup farming operations here on the New Entry incubator plots. You'll have a unique opportunity to meet the farmers, learn about their ventures, and gain more insight into the process of becoming a sustainable farmer. The Parfait Ice Cream Truck of Lexington will also be on hand serving homemade soft serve ice cream, paletas, cold-brew coffee and kombucha!

New Entry resides on the scenic grounds of Moraine Farm, originally a gentlemen's farm developed in 1882 by Olmsted as a way to join several properties bordering Wenham Lake that had been acquired by Boston businessman John C. Phillips. It is classic Olmsted landscape, where areas are seperated by function in a creative design that respects the natual topography of the land. His underground drainage design demonstrated that it was possible to turn worn-out, “useless” land into productive farm land.  In our guided farm and Food Hub tours, you'll get an educational walk through the fields that still thrive today, learn about organic crop production, and see how we coordinate and send out out the hundreds of fresh food donations we harvest every week from our organic demonstration plot every week.

So please stop by and say hello. We'd love to meet you and welcome you to our new home!
