Pumpkin Smash 2024: A Smashing Success Thanks to You!

Tuesday, December 10, 2024 // Freddy Soza

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Annual Great Pumpkin Smash 2024, hosted by Green Beverly and New Entry! This year’s event marked the fourth annual celebration of community-driven sustainability and environmental stewardship, showcasing the growing impact of our collective efforts over the years.

Smashing Sustainability Milestones
With the help of 1,300 enthusiastic attendees, we diverted an impressive 11,000 pounds of pumpkins from incinerators and landfills, transforming them into nutrient-rich compost. This effort resulted in a reduction of 9.5 metric tons of CO₂e, helping us take meaningful steps toward a healthier planet. The compost will be used to enrich the soil at New Entry’s Incubator Farm businesses, which grow fresh, healthy food for our community.
Beverly’s Waste Reduction Committee further reported that 83% of waste from event food vendors was redirected into recycling, compost, or returnable, with proceeds donated to Beverly Bootstraps.

Special Shoutouts to Our Champions
A huge shoutout to Beantrust Coffee for their generous donation that kept everyone warm and energized. We also want to recognize the Endicott College Lacrosse Team for championing sustainability and making the event’s destruction zone an unforgettable experience! Your leadership and energy turned pumpkin smashing into a highlight of the day.
