New Entry's Practicum in Sustainable Agriculture: A Gateway to Sustainable Food Production!

[Beverly, Mass. – March 10, 2024] - New Entry is thrilled to announce the launch of its highly anticipated Practicum in Sustainable Agriculture, an immersive hands-on course designed to empower youth with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in the field of sustainable agriculture. Geared towards beginners and aspiring farmers, this practicum offers a comprehensive curriculum aimed at cultivating farm skills, expanding knowledge of vegetable production, and laying the groundwork for a successful career in sustainable agriculture.

Scheduled to start on June 3rd and culminating on August 16th, 2024, the practicum will consist of weekly Monday evening classes held at the picturesque Moraine Farm in Beverly, Mass. In addition to classroom instruction, participants will engage in practical, hands-on skill-building sessions at the farm twice a week.

Participants in the practicum will have the unique opportunity to:
- Delve into sustainable agriculture practices, including soil health enhancement, efficient field preparation, and plant care.
- Explore greenhouse management techniques, crop health maintenance, and climate control strategies.
- Learn and implement strategic pest and disease management, alongside nutrient management, and composting methods.
- Uncover best practices for harvest and post-harvest management to ensure optimal product quality.
- Develop a farming entrepreneurial mindset, reflecting on production optimization, resilience-building, and time efficiency strategies.
The course curriculum will cover a wide range of topics, including soil health and nutrient management, direct seeding and transplanting techniques, BCS operation, crop health and development, weeding methods, pest and disease management, irrigation systems, and harvest and post-harvest management practices.
